WordPress Wordcamp Conference 2010
May 02
We went to this year’s WordPress conference (WordCamp San Francisco) at the new Mission Bay development. * WordPress is an open source blogging platform this, and many other, blogs are built on.
One of the speakers of this year’s conference was Richard Stallman, father of GNU and the open source software movement. He arrived 30 minutes late, out of breath, and with a bag of props (really).
He then blasted Amazon for the Kindle’s “censorship-capable” backdoor content manager (the same function that allowed Amazon to erase Orwell’s books from units of Kindle owners), only referring to it in his presentation as “the Swinde,” and took a few swipes at Linus Torvalds and pretty much anyone that wanted to make money from selling or licensing software, or as he puts it – “to curb our freedoms.”
Though I don’t agree with all his views, he had good information about the origins of GNU with a funny presentation, and at the end he donned this crazy costume and auctioned off a book for his non-profit – the Free Software Foundation.
